Round 4 Superstock 1000 at Brands Hatch GP was a weekend to forget. Friday practice went well, and we made a big change ready for qualifying that we were confident would work.
Out for qualifying I did a 5-lap run on old tyres to see how the changes felt then came in for a new tyre. We were sat in 21st when I came in and felt really good. Unfortunately, on my out lap on a new rear, I high sided out of Stirlings. Ended up qualifying 30th.
Quick fix for the bike and ready for the big 2-part race. After making a good start and well in the mix something didn’t feel right on the bike, I kept losing my footing. I stayed out for a few laps but then realised my foot rest was hanging off. I pulled in as soon as I noticed what was wrong to tighten it up. But because I took a short cut into the pits, not wanting to lose the foot peg, I wasn’t allowed to go back out and that was the end of our day.
On Sunday the weather changed and warm up was dry with showers. Went out to make sure all felt ok with the bike. Then the heavens opened, and we had an easy tyre choice for a wet race. After a couple of sighting laps to get a feel for the bike and some quick last-minute changes, I felt like I could make a good race. Again, another good start but another rider crashed at turn 1 and I had nowhere to go but into the gravel. Managed to stay on the bike but took a long time to get back on track. I was so far back I pulled in, with a chance of a red flag I re-joined just in case of a restart. After a few laps I decided enough was enough, my race was over at turn 1, no point pushing on for no gain.
Very disappointing weekend for us, we felt strong coming into the weekend and feel like we have been making good progress. Move on to the next one at Knockhill in a couple of weeks ✊
