Round 10 Superstock 1000 at Donington Park was a challenging weekend with constantly changing weather.
Both practice sessions on Friday were damp with a drying line. I felt comfortable and showed good pace in poor conditions.
The weather improved on Saturday, so it was dry for qualifying. Annoyingly I struggled during the session, all down to my own fault of just trying too hard and not really achieving anything, qualifying 36th.
Race day, it had been raining heavily all night, so we had a wet warm up. The setting we used on Friday in the damp conditions wasn’t quite right, but we knew what changes we had to make if the race was to be wet.
By the time of our race it was damp with a drying line. We went out on the sighting lap on full wets but knew straight away it was the wrong tyre choice. I pulled in and with the help of the guys at Team WD40 we got full dry tyres fitted and made it out just as pit lane closed.
After a great initial launch off the line, I nearly hit a rider that looked to of missed a gear, losing a lot of places. I tried to make up for it into turn one but got caught out on the wet and nearly high-sided. By the time I had recovered and started to make ground, the safety car came out. Unfortunately, whilst under the safety car, the group I was with didn’t close the gap up to the rest of the pack. Once restarted I made my way past and then closed the gap to the next group of 5 or 6 riders. Eventually getting through the group and pulling away, I was gradually closing the next gap down but was just too far back after losing time at the start of the race. I really enjoyed the race finishing 21st.
Looking forward to the final round at Brands in a couple of weeks 👍✊
